The Story So Far...

Hello reader, and welcome to my blog.  I plan to talk about my life in Eve as a solo explorer and pirate, as well as my thoughts on Eve in general.  For this first post, I will go into my history a bit and how I got where I am today.

I have been playing Eve off and on for the past four years.  During those four years, I have done almost all the typical stuff an Eve player does.  I started out as a miner, eventually moving on to null sec to make a ton of cash (for my account age) mining the rare ores out there.  When I finally got sick of mining, I tried my hand at running missions, but as with mining, that got boring as well.  I've spent time in a low sec corp doing small gang pvp.  I've been in a large null sec alliance participating in large fleet battles.  None of these activities really appealed to me in the long run, especially when I was in null sec.  I can't stand the culture out there, the politics, and the requirements they expect of you.

Then I started getting into exploration (pre-Odyssey) and using covert ops ships.  I created my own solo corp, sold almost all of my assets, and moved into low sec with an exploration fitted Pilgrim with Recon 5, a Tengu, a Viator, and some other gear.  I started having a lot of fun with the game, I was playing on my own terms, and I was making a ton of money.

I had always wanted to also get into solo PvP, but I wasn't sure quite how to do it.  I like the idea of being a pirate, but the definition of a pirate in Eve isn't quite my definition of a pirate(more on this in a future post).  I fitted up some Merlins and went roaming in faction warfare areas, and did pretty well for myself.  But I didn't feel like a pirate, the people I fought were also looking for a fight.  Pirates look for treasure, not fair fights.

Then comes Odyssey.  Many might not think so, but for me, this is the best expansion CCP has released so far due to its enhancement of my playstyle.  I love the new data/relic sites and the hacking mini game, and that rats no longer spawn in them.  Plus the sites, at least initially, got buffed as far as income.  I made over a billion during the first week of Odyssey, just doing data/relic sites.  I do not like that Tengus can't do 4/10s anymore, but for me that was offset by the buff of the other sites.

With the changes to data and relic sites came a new opportunity.  Most people in low sec are running sites in astrometric frigates or covert ops frigates.  They don't fit weapons or tank because there are no rats in these sites now.  And often times they have expensive Sister's Probe Launchers fitted.  Also, since everyone and their mother started running sites after Odyssey came out, the prices on the loot was dropping.  I felt it was my duty to start doing something about that, and I now will often hunt explorers in low sec.  I will detail in another post exactly what I do and what ship I use, etc.

I also sometimes go into wormholes looking for juicy targets to gank.  Miners tend to be the easiest and the ones I see most often.  Again, I will go into further detail in another post.

Well, that is where I am at this point.  Solo exploration and solo cloaky piracy.  Stay tuned for more posts.
