Back for a Bit

I haven't had much time for Eve in the last couple months.  First final exams for my classes, then out of town for the holidays, followed by the start of a new semester.  But I haven't quit Eve.

Just going to comment on some ideas I've had lately, as well as a few changes I've made with my solo hunting habits.  Firstly, last post toward the end I commented on how I can now use the Mobile Depot to swap fits out in null sec to actually do combat sites as well with the Tengu.  I actually tried this, by making an extended trip out there.  I ran into a few things I did not like though.

For one, never found any decent combat sites, and I went through a ton of systems.  I still ran a few, but no DED sites, just normal combat sites.  No special loot, bounties weren't enough to justify my risk, and no escalations.  Also the cargo space and amount of ammo I could actually bring were an issue.

I still made most of my money off data and relic sites.  I think I will stick to just using the Tengu for null sec runs for data and relic sites only.

However one experience during the null sec run inspired me to rethink a few things.  I was scanning some sites in system, and there was one other person there.  Now usually, I won't run a site at all if anyone else is in local, but I will still sometimes scan in these systems, hoping the folks in local leave.  Wasn't happening this time.

What I did see on dscan was another set of probes.  Then, I saw a Heron on dscan.  One of the sites I had scanned down in system was a relic site that I wanted to do, so I warped in cloaked, and there the Heron was, just getting started on the first can.

Now, I've got missiles on this Tengu fit, but no point.  I could have brought point so I could change in the mobile depot, but I didn't.  I hadn't even thought to because my main mission for this run was to try some null sec combat sites.  I wanted the site anyway, and a Heron didnt seem to pose a threat to my Tengu, no matter how non combat worthy my fit was.  So I decloaked, locked, and started sending my heavy missiles out.

I must have caught the Heron offguard or semi afk, because I got more volleys in then I should have before he warped off.  Or he assumed he was pointed, I dunno.  But I had him in structure before he left, and really wished I had point.  But, I got what I wanted, the rest of the relic site.  He did come back in system about 10 minutes later and talked some shit in local, but whatever I don't care, I won, I got what I wanted whether he blew up or not.  By then I was about done with the site, so I left in case he was coming back in something different for revenge.  A quick dscan showed he was still in a Heron.

So, my conclusion is instead of bringing a mobile depot out to try to do combat sites in null, I will just bring it along with a pvp fit in case of any opportunities like the one I described above.

I also have decided my stealth bomber rocket fit for hunting explorers is retired.  It worked beautifully, and may still have a place later on, but for now I will be testing an Astero to replace its role.  The nice thing about the Astero is that I can also put a relic analyzer on it to run relic sites while I look for targets, and it has the bonuses for it.  So I don't get as bored, and still make some cash.  Essentially a specialized low sec relic hunter, with combat abilities to blow up other players/competition.  I don't run data sites in low sec, because in my opinion they aren't worth the time or cargo space for all the stuff.  Relic sites give 99% salvage that uses hardly any cargo space, and is worth much more in comparison to data site loot.

The only problem I foresee is that I will lose that targeting delay bonus after decloaking that the stealth bomber gets.  This gives the target a chance to get away.  However, if he's busy doing the hacking mini game, he probably won't notice me for a few seconds anyway.

I'll post next about how well my Astero tests are going, and if I scored any kills with it.
